Obituary: Stanley Lee Armstrong, 90, of Ludington

Stan Armstrong

Stanley Lee Armstrong, 90, of Ludington, died Thursday, December 18, 2025, at home.  He was born March 7, 1935, in Marietta, Ohio, the son of Carl and Mary (Hupp) Armstrong.

Stan graduated from Allegan High School in 1953.  Afterwards he attended Western Michigan University where his earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.  Stan was the band director at Whitehall Public Schools for 10 years, he then worked in school administration at Pine River Schools for several years.  Most recently he served as the assessor and zoning administrator for Hamlin Township for 36 years until his retirement in 2021.

Stan loved classical music and taking trips to New York to go to the opera with his brother.  He also enjoyed reading and watching the Detroit Lions.  Stan served as the choir director at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church for many years, as well as the director of the West Shore Community Choir for a number of years.

On August 2, 1991, in Ludington, Stan married Christine Christensen who survives him.  He is also survived by: his daughter, Tamara (James) Hartman; three grandsons, John (Allison) Hartman, Jacob Hartman and Jeremiah Hartman; three great-grandchildren, Alaric, Charles and Joanna; two stepchildren, Sam (Janelle) Hamilton, and Anna Hamilton; two step-grandsons, Frank Hamilton and Linden Bing-Hamilton; his sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Armstrong; his friend, Paul Patterson; and his beloved standard poodle, Duncan.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bill Armstrong.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 2026, followed by an informal service beginning at 4 p.m., at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel in Ludington.
