CUSTER — Mason County Eastern’s varsity and junior varsity teams faced tough Bear Lake teams Tuesday, Dec. 16. The Cardinals’ varsity team lost 55-29 and the JV fell short 25-20.
“The varsity team struggled against a very strong Bear Lake team,” MCE Coach Jake Smith said. “We fought hard early to get clean looks at the basket and just had a poor first half shooting. Bear Lake was able to get some quality looks inside and were very physical on the boards.
“I was proud of how my girls worked hard all night and were able to come back and play much better in the second half.”

“Our scoring fell off in the second half,” Smith said. “We were not able to get enough buckets to fall for us. I thought the whole team played well enough to come out on top, but a few defensive lapses allowed Bear Lake to pull ahead. A close game that the girls can take a lot of good things from and build on the rest of the year.”
