LUDINGTON —  Ludington senior Dylan Sniegowski achieved a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state qualifying time in the 100 butterfly Tuesday, Dec. 16, with a time of 57.56. The qualifying time is 58.19.

Sniegowski’s qualifying score contributed to the Orioles’ win over the Manistee Mariners in their first dual of the season. The Orioles were victorious in all 12 West Michigan Conference Lakes Division events.

“Manistee’s four member team put up some great swims but were no match for our 12 member squad,” said LHS Coach Susan Sniegowski.

The Oriole relay team of Jaden Vronko, Ian Lundberg, Dylan Sniegowski and Grady Sailor won both the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay.  The 200 Free Relay of Sawyer Bishop, Griffin Jorissen, Grayson Cogle and Kasen Carlsen pulled off a close victory with a time of 2:12.36 to Manistee’s 2:12.67 team of Brock Adamczak, Owen Heintzelman, Juan Orduna and Jacob Lee.

First place individual finishers for Ludington were Sniegowski in the 200 free and 100 fly; Ian Lundberg in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke; Grady Sailor in the 50 free and 100 free; Sawyer Bishop in diving; and Jaden Vronko in the 100 backstroke.  Will Ryan won the 500 freestyle with an impressive lifetime best swim.

Both divers Sawyer Bishop and Grayson Cogle had season best scores.

“Other notable performances include freshman Kasen Carlsen and Griffen Jorissen who swam great races in their first time competing in the 500 freestyle and Sawyer Bishop’s 12 second drop in the 100 freestyle,” Sniegowski said.

“The team overall is looking very strong for this early in the season.”

The Orioles will compete again on Thursday at Grand Haven High School.
