NORTH MUSKEGON — The Norsemen of North Muskegon defeated the Mason County Central Spartans 67-47 Friday, Dec. 12 during West Michigan Conference Rivers Division action.

“We started with good energy and finished strong, outscoring them 12–6 in the fourth quarter and attacking the rim to earn trips to the free-throw line,” said MCC Coach Chris VanderHaag. “We’re a young, brand-new group and these games are part of the learning process. We’re playing a tough stretch of our schedule, and teams like this expose areas we need to improve.”

Central outscored the Norsemen in the fourth quarter 12-6 but it wasn’t enough to catch up.

“If we stay committed to learning and playing the right way, this experience is going to make us better as the season goes on.”

Cole VanderHaag came up big again for the Spartans, finishing with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

“He worked hard tonight for his points going 9/12 from the line,” Coach VanderHaag said. “Michael Chye, continues to improve he finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.  He has been really stepping up for us.  Tyler Norton finished with a solid 6 points and 6 rebounds.”
