
Maria Balderas
Maria Teresa Balderas, 76, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, in Grand Rapids. Born on February 10, 1949, in San Manuel, Texas, Maria grew up enveloped in the warmth of a close-knit family which deeply influenced her own values as a family-oriented, loving, and independent woman.
Maria is survived by her devoted husband, Francisco “Paco” Balderas, and her children Rogelio Luevano, Armando (Trinidad) Luevano, Diana (Ricardo) Luevano Lazo, Ruben Luevno, and David Lee (Amber) Herrera. She also leaves behind her mother, Tomasa Rios Guerra, along with numerous siblings, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her father, David Guerra, her daughter, Lisa Castillo, and daughter-in-law, Jenny.
Throughout her life, Maria cherished her time spent sewing, baking, gardening, and bird watching, activities that reflected her love for the simple joys in life. She was also a devoted fan of telenovelas, indulging in the dramatic twists and heartfelt stories they presented. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life’s challenges with grace and resilience.
A memorial service to celebrate Maria’s life will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Maria’s heart, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others and nurturing hope.
