HUDSONVILLE — The Lakeshore Badgers varsity hockey team defeated the Jenison Wildcats 4-2 on Friday, Dec. 5 at the Griff’s Georgtown rink in Hudsonville.
We got off to a decent start in the first period, taking the lead about 8 minutes into the frame,” said Badgers Coach Brian Zatloukal.  “The game was pretty even for the remainder of the period, but we did have to kill a few penalties.  We started the second period killing a pair of penalties and Jenison was able to even the score on the power play. “
The Lakeshore Badgers is a cooperative team hosted by Manistee Area Public Schools and consisting of high school players from MAPS, Ludington, Mason County Central, Mason County Eastern, Pentwater, Shelby and Hart.
On a subsequent Badgers power play, Jenison took the lead scoring short handed.  The Badgers were able to level the game at 2 with six minutes to play in the second period and we went to the second intermission tied at 2.
In the third period, the Badgers were able to take control and scored twice.  The final score was 4-2.  This win brings the Badgers’ season record to 4-6 (1 OT loss).
“I felt we had a decent first period in terms of competitiveness, but our effort and compete fell off in the second allowing Jenison to get back into the game,” Zatloukal said.  “I was very happy with how we competed in the third period and carried play.  Our goaltender, Brockton Jabrocki (MCC sophomore) played well making 12 saves on 14 shots, giving us a chance to win.  We got goals from Levi Young (MCC senior) and three goals from Adrian Lundberg (LHS sophomore). “
The Badgers travel to Richmond Gull Lake High School today and will play the Kalamazoo Eagles at 7 p.m.
Our next game is Saturday 12/6 at the Kalamazoo Eagles (host school Richmond Gull Lake) at 7 PM.
