MCP Sports: Flipstar teams successful at local meet

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Flipstar Gymnastics had amazing success at the Flip Flop for Fall Invitational. Flipstar hosted teams at its gym, 5909 W. US 10, from around the state with 75 Flipstar Team gymnasts compete, a record number. Of the 75, 70 of the gymnasts competed in the competitive sessions and earned 224 Top-3 podium medals with 99 of them being champion medals. Flipstar also earned the Team Champion award at the Xcel Copper, Xcel Bronze, Xcel Gold, Xcel Platinum and Boys 4X4 level 1 levels as well as earning the second place team award at the Xcel Silver level.

Boys 4×4

The Flipstar Boys 4X4 Champion Team was led by All-Around Champion Noah Moul with a score of 37.25, which earned him the highest boys 4X4 All-Around of the entire meet. In his first ever competition, Noah earned the Champion title on all events for his age division.

Boaz Armstrong, also competing for the first time, earned the All-Around Champion title for his age division. He also earned the champion title on vault, bars, beam/pommel prep as well as second on floor exercise. Lincoln Gieske and Dexter Gillespie each earned the second place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. Lincoln earned the second place medal on all events. Dexter earned three second and one third place event medals.

Colton Carter and Simon Burgess each earned the third place podium all-around medal. Colton earned the Floor Exercise Champion title as well as third on the other events for all podium medals. Simon also earned all podium medals earning third place on all events.

Shining Stars

Shining Stars: Lexi McLain

One Flipstar competitor competed at the Shining Stars level of the Special Stars division. Lexi McLain earned the champion title on all events as well as the trophy for the highest Shining Stars all-around score of the meet.

Xcel Copper

It was the first meet for all of Flipstar’s Xcel Copper gymnasts as this is the first year the locally-owned gym has chosen to compete at this level.

“These girls did amazing bringing home the Team Champion title as well as many individual titles,” said Coach Amy Rohrbach, co-owner of Flipstar Gymnastics.

Kevi Jaskula led the way for the Copper team with an all-around score of 37.1, which also earned her a special award for the Highest Xcel Copper all-around out of all the Xcel Copper gymnasts in the meet, regardless of age division. She also earned the Champion title on uneven bars as well as two second place and a fifth place medals.

Aubrey Vronko earned the All-Around Champion title as well in her age division along with the Champion title on uneven bars and floor exercise. She also earned two second place event medals. Adilyn Kapala and Paisley Haynes each earned the second place all-around medal in their respective age divisions as well as the Vault Champion title.

Adilyn also earned second and two third place medals for all podium finishes. Paisley earned one second, one third and one fourth place event medals. Lorellei Patten earned a Champion title on the floor exercise one second and two fifth place event medals for a third place all-around finish.

Juniper Wohlberg earned a Balance Beam Champion title as well as a fourth, a second and a sixth place event medals for a fourth place all-around finish. Lucy Boyd had third place podium finishes on two events as well as a fourth and a sixth place event medals for a fifth place all-around medal.

Tessa Keson and Emily Cluck each earned sixth place all-around medals in their respective age divisions. Tessa also earned a third place podium medal on one event as well as two fourth place medals and a sixth place medal. Emily earned one fourth and three sixth place event medals.

“At the Xcel Copper level, we also had five gymnasts participate in the fun meet portion of the meet,” Rohrbach said. “This was the first meet ever for these young gymnasts. These gymnasts earned ribbons for each event. They earned all blue, red and white ribbons which are the top three colors awarded.”

Emilya Miszewski earned three blue and one red ribbon. Eliza Miszewski earned one blue and three red ribbons. Felica White earned all red ribbons. Charlie Campbell earned three red and one white ribbon. Madison Farber, who just turned 4 years old, charmed the crowd with her sweet smile earning two red and two white ribbons.

“We are so proud of these beginning competitors for remembering their routines and getting out there to perform,” Rohrbach said.

Xcel Bronze

“This was also the first meet ever for many of our Xcel Bronze gymnasts.”

In her first competitive meet, Svenja Siems led Flipstar to the Xcel Bronze Team Champion title with her All-Around Champion title with a score of 37.8, which was also high enough to earn her the trophy for the Highest Xcel Bronze All-Around out of all 40 Xcel Bronze competitors in the meet.

“She accepted this award with tears of joy streaming down her face,” Rohrbachsaid.

Svenja had all podium finishes with the Champion title on vault and balance beam as well as a second and a third place event medal.

Flipstar gymnasts earned the All-Around Champion title in all age divisions with Hensley Chavalia, Eliza Quinn, Ryah Nichols and Lily Wagner each earning this title in their respective age divisions. In her first competition ever, Lily earned all podium finishes with the Champion title on vault and floor exercise as well as a second and a third place event medals. Hensley earned the Champion title on vault and balance beam as well as second and sixth place event medals. Ryah earned the Champion title on uneven bars and balance beam as well as second and fourth place event medals. Eliza earned the Uneven Bars Champion title as well as two third and one fifth place event medals.

Kylin Vanderputte, Davony Glenn and Kinsey Sanders each earned the second place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. They also each earned a Champion title with Kylin and Davony earning the Floor Exercise Champion title and Kinsey earning the title for her uneven bar routine. Kylin also earned the Champion title on vault as well as fifth and seventh place event medals. Kinsey also earned second, third and fifth place event medals. In addition to her first place medal, Davony also earned second, fourth and fifth place event medals. Addisyn Monton, Josephine Ryan and Raelynn Rabe each earned the third place podium medal for all-around in their respective age divisions. Raelynn earned a Champion title on balance beam as well as two third and a fourth place event medals. Josephine earned the Uneven Bars Champion title and second, fifth and sixth place event medals.

Addisyn earned the vault Champion title as well as event medals for second, third and fifth places. Autumn Towns, Hannah Mackin, Fiona Ewing and Ellie Odegaard each earned the fourth place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. Autumn earned second, fourth, fifth, and sixth place event medals. Hannah earned second place, two fifth places and a sixth place. Fiona earned a second a third and two sixth place event medals. Ellie earned two fourth place medals, along with a fifth medal and a sixth place medal.

Adalyn Martin, Evie Witkowski, Sloane Alway and Brynn Grothause each earned a fifth place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. Adalyn earned a fourth and three fifth place event medals. Evie earned two fourth a fifth and a sixth place event medals. Sloane earned a third place podium medal as well as a fourth and two fifth place event medals. Brynn earned a second place podium medal as well as event medals for fourth, fifth and sixth places.

Ophelia Quinn, Emmalyn McDermott and Bella Bennett each earned sixth place all-around medals. Ophelia earned second and third place podium medals as well as sixth and seventh place event medals. Bella earned a second place podium finish as well as a fifth and two sixth place event medals. Emmalyn earned third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place event medals.

Weslynn Sanders, Stevie Trejo and Loren Fisher each earned seventh place all-around medals. Stevie earned a second and a third place podium medal as well as fourth and seventh place event medals. Weslynn earned a third place podium medal as well as three seventh place event medals. Loren earned two sixth and two seventh place event medals.

Xcel Silver Team

Flipstar’s second place Xcel Silver Team was just .4 behind the first place team. Riley Flood, Nola Randle and Jenny Vega each earned the All-Around Champion title in their respective age divisions.

In her first ever competitive meet, Riley also earned the Champion title on vault, uneven bars and balance beam as well as a fifth place event medal. Nola earned the Champion title on uneven bars and the second place medal on the other three events. In the Ladies Division, Jenny earned the Champion title on all events.

Natalie Lloyd and Gretchen Reed each earned the second place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. Gretchen earned second place medals on all events. Natalie also earned podium medals on all events with the Champion title on balance beam as well as two second and one third place event medals. Kimber Carter and Elyse Tucker each brought home the third place all-around medal. Elyse was the Floor Exercise Champion and also earned two third and a fourth place event medals.

Kimber earned two second place podium medals as well as two fourth place event medals, Khloe Pendrick, Olivia Machen and Caitlyn Dean each earned the fourth place all-around medal in their respective age divisions. Olivia earned two third place as well as fourth and fifth place event medals. Caitlyn earned the Vault Champion title as well as a third and two fifth place event medals. Emma earned two fourth, fifth and sixth place event medals.

Xcel Gold

Flipstar’s Xcel Gold Champion Team had three All-Around Champions in Olivia Brandt, Maple Prescott and Kelsey Britton. Olivia and Maple both missed the Highest Xcel Gold All-Around of the meet award by just 0.05. Olivia earned the Champion title on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise as well as a third place event medal for all podium finishes. Maple also earned all podium medals with the Champion title on vault and balance beam as well as second and third place event medals. Kelsey had all podium finishes as well earning the Champion title on vault and earned two second and a third place event medals.

Oriana Hill and Hannah Rudzki each earned the second place podium all-around finish in their respective age divisions. Hannah earned the Champion title on balance beam and floor exercise and earned second and third place event medals. Oriana earned the Floor Exercise Champion title as well as two third and fourth place event medals.

Braelynn Sanders and Lindsay Maynard each earned a third place podium all-around medal. Lindsay had all podium event medals earning the Uneven Bars Champion title as well as a second and two third place event medals. Braelynn also earned the Uneven Bars Champion title and earned  third, fourth and fifth place event medals.

Rylee Revolt and Avonlea Johnson each earned fourth place all-around medals in their respective age divisions. Rylee earned the Floor Exercise Champion title and also earned two third place podium event medals as well as a fifth place. Avonlea earned four fourth place event medals.

Xcel Platinum

Flipstar’s Xcel Platinum Champion Team was led by Nina Frick, who’s All-Around Champion score of 37.6 earned her the Highest Xcel Platinum of the meet trophy.

Finley Watson, Alyssa Landino and Justine Lofton also each earned the All-Around Champion title in their respective age divisions. They each had all podium finishes with Justine and Finley earning the Champion title on all events. Alyssa earned the Champion tile on uneven bars and balance beam and earned second on the other events. Nina earned the Champion title on balance beam and floor exercise and earned second and third place medals on the other events.

Abby Dodson and Laney Bottrell each earned the second place all-around award. Abby earned the Champion title on vault and floor exercise and earned second on the other events for all podium finishes. Laney also had all podium finishes earning three second places and one third place event medals.

Cara Siemiaszko had a third place podium all-around finish. She earned the Champion title on vault as well as a third and two fourth place event medals.

Grace Hasenbank earned the Uneven Bars Champion title and earned a third and two fourth place event medals for a fourth place all-around award.

Xcel Diamond

One Flipstar gymnast competed at the Xcel Diamond level.

“After taking a year off of competition to just train while healing some nagging injuries, Miriam Wilson came back stronger than ever,” Rohrbach said. Miriam earned the Champion title on all events and All-Around. She also earned the Highest All-Around out of all six of the ladies competitors regardless of level.

“We are so proud of all of these gymnasts,” Rohrbach said. “For most it was their first time competing at their current level and for many, it was their first time ever competing. We are proud of them for the hard work they have put in to achieve these accomplishments and awards. We are just as proud of their team support for each other. They supported each other through everything from first meet jitters and beginning of the season mistakes to best performances ever.

“We also want to send a huge thank you to everyone who made this day an incredible success for these amazing gymnasts. Parent volunteers, gymnast volunteers, coaches, judges and other teams that traveled across the state to get to us and family, friends and community members who came to watch all played a part in making this a wonderful day full of smiles.

“We had over 500 people come through the Flipstar doors all to enjoy gymnastics. We will have some of our Flipstar team members heading to Grand Rapids area to compete in December and January. We will then host our next home meet on February 7.”
