Lysle Palmer Hansberger Jr, 79, of Ludington, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Ludington Woods Retirement Living. Lysle was born on April 7, 1946, to Lysle Palmer Hansberger Sr. and Adelyn Luella (Keaton) Hansberger in Wayne, Mich. He was raised in Wayne, graduated from Wayne High School in 1964 and soon after enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard.

Lysle was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, retiring as E-7 chief boatswain mate after 20 years of service. His Coast Guard career spanned the Great Lakes. He served aboard USCGC Sundew (WLB-404) in 1966, aboard USCGC Acacia (WLB-406) from 1967–1968, was stationed at Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse, Wisconsin (1968–1969), and Two Rivers Lighthouse, Wisconsin (1969–1970). In 1970, he joined the USRC Gresham, followed by USCGC Red Cedar (WLM-688) in 1971. That year he began a four-year post at Sector Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. (Sector Soo) until 1975 and was the Lansing Shoals officer in charge from 1974-1976. He then served in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (1976–1978) and aboard USCGC Mesquite (WAGL/WLB-305) (1978–1980). Lysle returned to the USCGC Sundew (WLB-404) in 1980 and concluded his service as chief of the Ludington Coast Guard Station from 1980-1985.

On July 27, 1974, Lysle married Marilyn Joan Zielinski at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Lysle and Marilyn celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2024. Together, they created a beautiful home that was always filled with family.

Following his service, he worked in management at Ludington Beverage for 19 years. He was also a Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputy for nine years. Additionally, he owned and operated a power washing business, Wash-On-Wheels for 31 years.

Lysle loved spending his time hunting, gardening, fishing, tinkering in his shop, spending time with family, and doing honey-do projects for his wife.

Lysle is survived by his two children, Ryan (Jennifer) Hansberger and Jennifer Hansberger-Bray; grandchildren, Austin (Tay) Hansberger, Brian (Kaley) Hansberger, Alexis Bray, and Faith Hansberger; great-grandchildren, Luke Hansberger, Marilyn Hansberger, and Brooklyn Hansberger; his sister, Grace Hansberger Rozelle; along with his many nieces and nephews.

Lysle was preceded in death by his lovely wife Marilyn Hansberger, along with his parents Lysle and Adelyn, and his sister, Marilyn Stillwagon.

A funeral service for Lysle will be held on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, at Grace Funeral Home at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
