SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — A 33-year-old Fountain man who was arrested on a bond violation attacked a Mason County sheriff’s deputy after he slipped the handcuffs from the back of his body to the front, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
The deputy sustained injuries to his face and hand, and the suspect now also faces charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police.
The incident occurred Friday, Nov. 14, around 8:20 p.m. on US 31 near Fountain Road.
The man was arrested after “he reportedly crashed his vehicle and walked to a residence in the 5100 block of North Stephens Road,” said Sheriff Cole. “He was out on bond and not to have been drinking or at the residence he was found at. The suspect was arrested on the bond violation, and at US 31 and Fountain Road, he complained about the handcuffs being too tight. As the deputy stopped the patrol car to loosen the cuffs, the suspect had slipped the cuffs in front of him and attacked the deputy when he opened the back door of the patrol car.”
