Obituary: Virgnia ‘Ginny’ Davis, 57, of Custer

Virginia “Ginny” Davis, 57, of Custer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 15, 2025.  Ginny was born on April 23, 1968 in Ludington, the daughter of Ervin and Mildred (Ewing) Payne and graduated from Mason County Central High School with the class of 1986.  Ginny married Melvin C. Davis on June 11, 1988 at Historic White Pine Village in Pere Marquette Township and they have celebrated 37 years together.

Ginny enjoyed being a homebody where she was able to raise their daughters, tend to her flower garden, and watch the various animals that often visited their yard.

Along with her husband Melvin, Ginny will be greatly missed by her daughters Ashley (Caleb) VanHorn of Wellston, Amber Davis of Custer, Brooke Davis (Waylin Coolman) of Branch, and Jenna Davis of Ludington; her pride and joy – granddaughter Emmersyn VanHorn; her sisters Diane (Ward) Hartley of Oklahoma, Jeannette Harris of Ypsilanti, Darlene (Rodger) Dirkse of West Olive, and Karen Garcia of Grand Rapids; her brothers Doug Payne of Mississippi, and Ervin Payne Jr. of Ludington; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents Ervin and Mildred Payne, and recently by her sister Brenda (Denver) Crumpton, and her brother-in-law Bill Harris.

No services are planned for Ginny at this time.
