PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, Dec. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. at United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 W. Bryant Road.

Featured speakers will be Todd Reed and Vans Stevenson who will talk about the Nov. 10, 1975 storm that sunk the Edmund Fitzgerald. Reed and Stevenson were reporters for the Ludington Daily News and covered the storm locally. While the Fitzgerald was the most significant casualty of the storm, its impact struck the entire Great Lakes region. In Ludington, wind gusts were reported at over 100 mph. One of Reed’s most memorable lighthouse photographs were captured that day, with waves easily crashing over the Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse.

While voting at the meeting is restricted to members, the public is invited to attend. Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner.

Attendees will have an opportunity to join the Mason County Historical Society which is a non-profit charitable organization that was founded in 1937. The society operates Historic White Pine Village, the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum and the Rose Hawley Archives in downtown Ludington.
