FOUNTAIN — A 16-year-old boy was transported by Mason County sheriff’s deputies to a juvenile detention facility after allegedly running away from home and stealing a vehicle Tuesday night, Nov. 4, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
The boy faces charges in the juvenile court system of unlawful driving away of an automobile (UDAA)/car theft, breaking and entering, and fleeing from police.
“At approximately 11:30 p.m., deputies were called to a rollover crash in the Village Fountain,” said Sheriff Cole. “While investigating that call, deputies received a second call reporting an attempted UDAA in the area. The homeowner reported hearing his pickup truck start up in this driveway and found a subject attempting to take his vehicle. The suspect fled when confronted by the homeowner. While patrolling the area, deputies found another vehicle that had been entered and items stolen.
“A deputy patrolling the area attempted a car stop, and the vehicle fled for approximately ½ mile before stopping. The driver was discovered to be the runaway from the earlier report.”
