Bob Nash

Surrounded by the love of family, Robert V. Nash, known to all as Bob, passed away at the age of 92 on Friday, October 31, 2025.

Bob was born July 19, 1933, in Custer, the ninth child born to the late Ray and Janie (Kreigh) Nash. He grew up on the family farm, graduating from Custer High School in 1951. Bob always joked that he graduated “top 10 of his class”, a class of 12 students.

In 1953 he married Marilyn Jean Miller of Ludington, and they celebrated nearly 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Together they raised two boys: Robert “Bob” (Barb) Nash of Niles and Kevin (Shelly) Nash of Ludington who survive.

Bob had a very strong work ethic, retiring from the C&O Railroad in 1994 after 40 years of service as an upholsterer. He enjoyed all things outdoors: hunting, fishing, camping and especially spending time at “Belonga-Nash”, the family hunting cabin. Bob bagged his last buck, an 8-point, at the age of 88. He had a love for history and enjoyed metal detecting in many of the ghost towns of Michigan. Bob was a regular at the Buckley Old Engine Show for many years and was especially proud to say that his grandfather, Albert Nash, had served in the Civil War. He also had a great love of trains, having an extensive model train room which he was more than happy to share with anyone who stopped by. In Bob’s earlier years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, salmon fishing, ham radio and was a volunteer fireman for the Hamlin Township Fire Department. In his retirement years he enjoyed day trips, lighthouse trips, spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and spending time at the cabin.

Bob was a very giving person, always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Whether it was fixing their computer, pulling them out of a ditch, shingling their roof or an upholstery job, Bob was always a phone call away and there with a smile on his face and ready to help out in any way he could. He also had a great love for his large family, his kids, grandkids and great grandkids (who called him GG)! Bob never missed a sports event or school function, even chaperoning field trips.

In addition to his sons, Bob is survived by his four grandchildren; Bobby Nash of Niles, Kelly (Greg) Quante of Bellaire, Ian (Paighton) Nash of Grand Haven and Colin Nash of Ludington, three great grandchildren; Gregory, Addison and Greyson all of Bellaire. Also surviving is one sister, Shirley Small of California and one sister-in-law Bonnie Nash of Zeeland along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his six sisters; Catherine, Irene, Florence, Erta, Hazel and Betty, and five brothers; Richard, Ray, Victor, Gale and Wayne.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Thursday, November 6 at noon, at Grace Funeral home of Ludington with Father Domingo Shriver officiating.  The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Wednesday, November 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning at 11 a.m.. until the time of service.

Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lake County Historical Society or the Mason County Historical Society.

The family has entrusted Grace Funeral Home & Cremation Services with arrangements.
