GRANT TOWNSHIP — A 10-year-old Grand Haven girl died as a result of an all terrain vehicle crash Friday evening. Emergency crews were called to the 1000 block of West Freeman Road at 6:46 p.m. on Oct. 17 for a report of an ATV rollover crash with injuries on private property.
According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the girl had been pinned under the ATV and bystanders had begun CPR.
“Despite life saving attempts, the child was pronounced dead at the scene,” Cole stated in a press release.
A preliminary crash report indicates the victim was operating a 2002 Suzuki Ozark when she lost control, causing the ATV to overturn, trapping her underneath, Cole said. A 14-year-old female passenger received minor injuries in the crash.
Emergency crews responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Grant Township Fire Department, Life EMS, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit.
