SCOTTVILLE — Mason County’s four senior activities centers now have digital tablets available for seniors to use for internet access and other online activities. The new tablets are courtesy of a grant from the Ludington Rotary Club. Seniors will be able to use the devices at the senior centers.

The local Rotary club provided a grant of up to $5,000, used to purchased 18 digital tablets which have been distributed to the senior centers in Free Soil, Ludington, Scottville and Tallman. While the grant was made to the Scottville Area Senior Center, it was meant to enhance online access for seniors county-wide, through the four centers.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, the Scottville Area Senior Center had a class to help seniors learn to use the devices, led by technology advisor Kristyn Norton, from the Mason County District Library Scottville branch.Norton will continue to help seniors learn tablet use at her regular individual tech help sessions at the Scottville center, held on Thursdays from 12:15 to 2 p.m.

Continuing help in using the tablet devices will also be available from staff members at each of the senior centers.

“All of our senior centers are making good use of our new tablets and deeply appreciate the generous support of the members of the Rotary club,” said Bill Kerans, director of the Scottville center. “They are an outstanding community-focused organization.”

“Online access is an increasing requirement and this will be a significant benefit in helping the county’s seniors navigate the online world, he added.”
