Rob Byer
Robert “Rob” Ray Byer crossed the final finish line on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the age of 55, in Baldwin. He leaves behind a legacy as vibrant as his passion for racing. He was born in Detroit, on December 1, 1969.
After waving the checkered flag on his high school years at Cadillac High in 1988, Rob revved up his education at Specs Howard School of Broadcasting, graduating in 1991. He then turned his talents toward the airwaves. His career took a thrilling turn as he became a radio station DJ, a photographer for a race car magazine, and later a truck driver, which gave him the freedom to travel the open road. Each turn showcased his knack for storytelling and his love for life in the fast lane. Rob’s love of NASCAR helped drive his passion forward.
Rob’s pit crew included his sons, Robert (Chelsea) Byer II and Russell Byer; his support team, consisting of his parents, Dick and Janet Anderson; and his sisters, Christle (Chris) Sheats, Cheryl (Chris) Orvis, and Carol (Andrew) Dean. Also in his inner circle were his son-in-law, Brandon Elkins, eight turbocharged grandchildren, and a pit lane of several nieces and nephews. He was supported by his best friend, Scott (Michelle) Chase. Rob was preceded in death by his co-pilot and love of his life, wife Donna Byer; stepdaughters, Amanda Elkins and Angel Lamberger; and grandparents, John and Maxine Jensen, and Pat and Winona Anderson.
Rob’s final lap was one of peace, and a cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be planned at a later date with a gathering of friends and family who will share tales of Rob’s races won, pit stops conquered, and laughter shared. Rob’s memory will remain not only as a trophy on the mantel of our hearts but also as a reminder to always take the victory lap in life with enthusiasm and joy.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
