HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Hart man was arrested by Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies Thursday evening following a vehicle chase.
Trayce Robert Tate was arraigned Friday afternoon on operating a vehicle while intoxicated, third offense, a felony, fleeing and eluding an officer, second offense, and malicious destruction of property (trees, shrubs, crops). He had initially been arrested for hit-and-run also. Bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, at 8:55 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash that occurred at the intersection of Jebavy Drive and Bryant Road in Pere Marquette Township. It was reported that a dark colored pickup truck had rear-ended another vehicle then fled northbound on Jebavy Drive.
A deputy on patrol near Jebavy Drive and Jagger Road spotted the suspect vehicle traveling north on Jebavy Drive. The suspect fled when the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop. Cole said the suspect’s vehicle reached speeds over 100 mph and the vehicle was weaving back and forth over both lanes, passing several vehicles and bicycles.
At Barnhart Road, the end of Jebavy Drive, the vehicle drove through a yard and then back around the patrol heading, in turn heading southbound on Jebavy Drive. The vehicle then headed west on Shagway Road, past Lincoln Road, then turned around again and headed eastbound on Shagway Road back to Jebavy Drive. He then turned north on Jebavy Drive.
At the intersection of Jebavy Drive and Barnhart Road, the vehicle left the roadway. While attempting to back up, the vehicle struck the patrol car.
The suspect’s vehicle and the patrol car both sustained moderate damage from the crash but the patrol car was rendered inoperable. No injuries were reported.
The suspect was arrested and charged with hit and run, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and fleeing and eluding a police officer.
