SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — The Fin & Feather Club of Mason County will be hosting a basic pistol class on Saturday, Sept. 6 and a shooting event on Sunday, Sept. 14.
The basic pistol class will be held all day with shooting pistols taking place at the end of the class. The cost is $20. Register by calling Jim Glover at 231-907-8330.
The shooting event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check in takes place at 8:30 a.m. with a mandatory safety meeting at 9 a.m. Participants must attend the safety meeting and sign a waiver in order to shoot. The event will follow standard range safety rules with ear and eye protection mandatory for all shooters and spectators.
There is a $15 entry fee for adults. Minors with a responsible adult are free.
Practical, defensive, and steel plate shooting will be included. The stages will be designed with semi-automatic pistols (non-magnum calibers) in mind and minimum basic gun handling skills required.
The event will feature practical shooting situations and may include shooting using the weak hand, mandatory reloads, barricades/defensive positioning, point shooting (no sights), as well as exciting steel plate stages with some unique twists. All shooting will begin from low-ready or a tabled firearm with no shooting occurring from any draw position. In addition, the participant may choose the difficulty level they wish to pursue on each stage to accommodate mobility issues or reduce stress.
The cowboy and adjacent steel ranges will be closed the night prior to the event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 13.

Registration is also allowed the day of the event provided the participant arrives early enough to sign the waiver and attend the safety briefing.
