Golembiewski

HART — A man who was conned out of $15,000 by another man offering to broker the purchase of his dreamboat has still not received all of his money back yet.
Eric Charles Golembiewski, 43, of Custer pleaded guilty to larceny by conversion $1,000-$20,000 July 22, 2024. During a hearing Monday Aug. 25 in Oceana County’s 51st Circuit Court, Golembiewski received a delayed sentence of seven months in jail with credit for four days served.
“The defendant was given almost a year to pay that balance and did not,” said Oceana County Prosecuting Attorney Joseph Bizon. “The judge (Susan K. Sniegowski) has given him one last chance to pay. If not, he will be serving a jail sentence. This week, he was sentenced to seven months jail, but that was suspended for 90 days to give him one last chance to pay what he owes.”
According to court records, Golembiewski still owes the crime victim $2,473 out of the $15,000 in restitution he was originally ordered.
“The victim is a nice man who accepted the defendant’s offer to broker the purchase of a boat,” said the prosecutor. “He gave the defendant money to pay for and deliver his dreamboat. The defendant never delivered. The victim and his wife have been very pleasant to work with — I feel very badly for them. This is our best option to get them the rest of the money owed to them.”
The offense occurred on or around Dec. 21, 2023.
