SCOTTVILLE — New phases of the water main reconstruction project have begun with work beginning along East State Street (US 10). The street is expected to be closed, between Main Street and Columbia Avenue, on Tuesday, Sept. 2 with a detour route of State Street, Columbia Avenue, Broadway Avenue. The route coincides with the city’s designated truck route. Curb work along East State Street is currently taking place.
The good news for motorists, however, is that West State Street paving will begin at the end of this week or beginning of next week, according to Interim City Manager Clarence Goodlein.
“At this time it is believe that US 10 west of Main Street will open before the Labor Day weekend begins,” Goodlein said.
The project is funded by an $8.7 million grant from a Drinking Water State Revolving grant (DWSRF) obtained from Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).
Goodlein has previously stated the projected completion date is September 2026.
While the State Street portion of the project will likely be completed this fall, the project also includes replacement of water mains on Elm Street, Crowley Street, Blain Street, Paul Street, Broadway Avenue, James Street, Columbia Avenue, Gay Street, Beryl Street, and Maple Street. Additionally, new mains that would complete loops are planned for East Second Street and East Fifth Street. See graphic.
About 10 years ago, water mains were replaced on Main Street and several of the west-bound streets along Main Street.
