Ole O’Brien

Owen “Ole” Fredrick O’Brien, 80, of Scottville, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

A true original, Owen lived life on his own terms. He loved fishing in all seasons, with a special passion for ice fishing, always striving to be the first guy out on the ice each year. He also enjoyed shooting pool, dancing, and washing it all down with a cold Busch beer. Known for attending just about every wedding at the Optimist Hall in Scottville, Owen could always be spotted on the dance floor showing off his legendary moves, affectionately known as “The Ole Shuffle.”

He is survived by his son Shane (Michelle) O’Brien; daughter Misty O’Brien; sisters Sondra Bowman and Sally Lauber; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry on his stories and spirit.

In addition to his parents Owen was proceeded in death by his brothers Leon Kenfield and Harry O’Brien; sisters Mary Jane Johnson and Nadine Lipps; and daughters Renea Armstrong and Shannon Stiles.

Owen’s life was guided by a simple philosophy: “A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.” And that’s exactly how he lived—fearlessly, unapologetically, and with a grin.

A celebration of Owen’s life will be held on September 14, 2025 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Amber Township Hall, where friends and family will no doubt raise a glass in his honor.
