SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Central School District Board of Education approved the hiring of Jessica Danielson as Upper Elementary principal during a special meeting on Friday, Aug. 1. Danielson, who is a graduate of MCC, has recently served as middle school principal for Shelby Public Schools for the past four years. Prior to that, she was a teacher at MCC for 19 years, teaching special education, preschool, kindergarten, and grades one and four.

Danielson replaces Kevin Kimes, who retired at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Kimes has served as a principal at MCC for 19 years, with part of that time as middle school principal. Kimes is a 1989 graduate of MCC High School. He began his teaching career at Gladwin High School, then moved back to the area, teaching at Ludington High School. From there, he taught at Connections and helped form Journey High School, an alternative school jointly operated by Ludington Area School District and MCC. Then, he returned to MCC as middle school principal before becoming upper elementary principal.

Danielson received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grand Valley State University. She began her career at Mason County Eastern before moving to MCC.

Danielson’s husband, Tim, is a student success specialist at MCC High School.
