SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — A 40-year-old Carson City, Mich. man died of a probable drowning Saturday evening following an incident in Bass Lake.
Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said emergency crews were called to the 7100 block of South Lakeshore Drive for a report of a person who had fallen off a jet ski and was floating face down in the water in Bass Lake.
“While responding to the call, the Mason-Oceana 911 center reported a passing boater had pulled the person from the water and CPR was in progress.,” Cole said.
“The victim was taken to shore by the private boater, where life saving measures continued, however, the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Cole said the victim was wearing a life vest adding the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Emergency crews responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Riverton Fire Department, and Life EMS. Also responding to the scene was the Mason County Victim Services Unit.
The case remains under investigation.
