PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A jet ran off a runway this morning while landing at the Mason County Airport Sunday, July 6, around 10: 30 a.m. There were no injuries. The Embraer Phenom 300 twin jet, was landing on runway 26 at when it apparently overshot the runway.
Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said the jet was traveling from Chicago to Mason County Airport where it was scheduled to pickup passengers.
“The only two passengers on the plane were the pilot and co-pilot,” Cole said. “They reported to deputies that the plane had experienced a brake failure upon landing.”
The jet slid off the west end of the east-west runway. Cole said the weather conditions were rainy at the time of the incident and a Mason County sheriff deputy was on scene within a minute of it being reported because the deputy had been at the Mason County Fairgrounds adjacent to the airport.
The plane had departed Chicago O’Hare Airport at 8:51 a.m. CDT and was scheduled to arrive at Mason County Airport at 10:29 a.m. EDT.
Cole said both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified but neither will be responding.
