Wayland man dies following electrical, boom lift accident in downtown Ludington

June 28, 2025

LUDINGTON — A 24-year-old Wayland man died Saturday morning in downtown Ludington following an accident involving electric lines and a boom lift. According to a press release from Ludington Police Department, emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Ludington Avenue and Robert Street at 10:16 a.m. for what was reported as an unknown emergency.

“The initial report was that someone had been electrocuted and had fallen off a building, from a significant height,” LPD Chief Chris Jones said the release.

Police officers from LPD found the victim who was unresponsive and not breathing and immediately began lifesaving efforts, Jones said. Medical first responders from Ludington Fire Department and paramedics from Life EMS ambulance then took over patient care upon their arrival.

The man was transported by ambulance to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital and was later declared dead, Jones said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was operating a boom lift when for unknown reasons, the lift and victim came in contact with live electrical lines,” Jone stated. “As a result of the contact with the electrical lines, the victim fell from the elevated position, estimated to be approximately 30 feet.”

Jones said the man was employed by a company based in Ada and was installing rain gutters on a building. The incident remains under investigation.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies and personnel from Consumers Energy also assisted.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Jacob Miller, 231-843-3425 or miller209@ci.ludington.mi.us.
