
Jim DeRooy
James “Jim” Louis DeRooy, 74, of Scottville, died Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington. He was born March 3, 1951, in Ludington, the son of Joseph and Julia (VanBergen) DeRooy.
Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War, who served in the U.S. Navy. He was a life member of the Custer VFW Gold Bar Post 5096 where he was a past commander.
Jim worked for over 20 years as a hi-lo operator, first at Stokely USA and later at Mason County Fruit Packers. He then went to work as a mason for Jensen Masonry for 15 years until his retirement. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, especially setback, and having an occasional beer or two. He also loved spending winters in Alabama and visiting his friends in the UP.
On November 23, 1990, in Ludington, Jim married Pamela Louise Jensen who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Melissa DeRooy, Amanda (Rusty) Merkey, Carrie DeRooy and Bob DeRooy; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild with one more on the way; his sister, Louise (Jon) Wahr; his brother, Joe (Tammy) DeRooy; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert DeRooy; sisters, Maryann DeRooy and Pat Adams; and his nephew, Christopher Wahr.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
