LUDINGTON – The Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association announced “a new name and logo that reflect its growing impact and enduring mission,” states a press release from the organization.

As of May 28, 2025, the organization will be known as Lakeshore Keepers.

“Since 1987, the organization has evolved alongside its commitment to preserve, restore, and promote west Michigan’s historic lighthouses. What began with the stewardship of Big Sable Point Lighthouse has expanded into a multi-site operation including Little Sable, Ludington North Breakwater, White River Light Station and Museum, and, as of January 2025, the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse.

“With this exciting addition comes a natural evolution in identity.

“Our mission remains the same, but with five iconic lighthouses now under our care, it’s time our name reflected the full scope of our work,” said Executive Director of Lakeshore Keepers Jack Greve.

This marks the organization’s third rebrand since its founding:

  • Originally established as Big Sable Point Lighthouse Keepers Association, focused solely on Big Sable.

  • Rebranded to Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association as additional lighthouses were added between 2004 and 2012.

  • Now, with the inclusion of the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse, the organization steps confidently into its next era as Lakeshore Keepers.

“The mission is to preserve, promote and educate the public, and make their lighthouses accessible to all,” is something that will stay the same, along with the “the dedication of volunteers, members, staff, board members, and supporters who make this work possible.” The names and characters of each lighthouse under the organization’s care will also remain the same.

The new logo will be revealed later this summer.

“Lakeshore Keepers is a nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve, promote, educate the public, and make the lighthouses accessible to all. Lakeshore Keepers is committed to maintaining these historic landmarks and providing educational opportunities that connect people to the maritime heritage of the Great Lakes.”
