Helen Larson

Helen Gladys Larson, 93, of Ludington, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Helen was born on January 14, 1932, in Custer Township. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Hilda (Knudsen) Mortensen. She was a 1950 graduate of Ludington High School. On July 19, 1952, she married Earl Larson who preceded her in death in 1995.

Helen was employed at Ludington Bank and Trust for over 30 years, retiring in 1994. She also worked at the Ludington American Legion for 10 years, and for over 40 years was a women’s auxiliary member. She loved living at Longfellow Towers, making numerous friends. She would spend her time playing cards, playing bingo, and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. When she felt lucky, she’d take trips to the casino. If Helen wasn’t the life of the party, she could be found helping for one; baking cakes for monthly birthday parties, and cooking.  More than anything, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was proud of their continuous accomplishments during her lifetime.

Helen is survived by her children, David Larson, Thomas (Lori) Larson, Christine (James) Shafer, and John (Cheryl) Larson; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alyce Bryant, and Wayne (Jeanie) Mortensen; and sister-in-law, Marie Mortensen.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Leslie Mortensen; sister, Mary Case; and daughter-in-law, Jan Larson.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 76 in Ludington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 76.

Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.OakGroveLudington.com.
