LUDINGTON — The Stage Left Theatre Company is now accepting applications for its 2025 scholarship program. Those eligible would meet the following criteria:
● Acceptance to an educational program with theater implications, such as acting, set design, lighting, costuming, choreography, or other. Proof required. Eligible programs may include, but are not limited to: educational camps, college courses, workshops.
● Program term must take place in either 2025 or 2026.
● Applicant must have resided in Mason, Lake, Oceana, or Manistee counties in the last three years.
● Prior involvement with Stage Left Theatre Company is a bonus.
Stage Left is offering three $500 scholarships for 2025; an additional scholarship was added through a donation of $500 by Patrick Huffman in 2024.
The application can be found at stageleftmi.org and the application deadline is May 16th, 2025. The finalists will be scheduled for an interview/audition and recipients will be announced by May 31st, 2025.
Separately, Stage Left Theatre Company will hold auditions for the musical comedy, “Firebringer,” on Sunday, May 18 and Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m. at Backstage Hobbies and Games, 119 S. James St.
The show will be directed by Nicki Danyluk who is in search of approximately 10 actors, ages 15 and over, to fill roles for the show. Those auditioning will be asked to cold read a few lines of one to two characters, learn/perform a 16-32 bar section of a song from the show, and learn/perform a small bit of choreography.
The show will run on Thursday, July 17 through Sunday, July 20, 2025 at the Ludington Area Center for the Arts. Shows will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Once cast, show rehearsals will be weekly Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday starting at 6:30 pm with location to be determined.
“Firebringer” is a comedic musical by StarKid Productions, which takes place in the Stone Age where a tribe of cave-people discovers fire. The musical delves into themes of tradition versus progress, the transformative power of fire, and the prehistoric threats they face, including woolly mammoths and saber-tooth tigers.
