LUDINGTON — Ludington High School senior Vanessa Madl is carrying on a spirit of giving that began with her parents, Kristen and Brian Madl. She recently started a youth group called MADL (Make a Difference Locally) and assembled 51 personal hygiene kits for girls as her first project. The name is a play on her surname with the purpose is to help others, lessons learned from her parents.
The kits included personal hygiene items along with beauty products and hair accessories and were delivered to LHS at-risk specialist Mark Boon who will then distribute them.
The Madl family has volunteered in a variety of community-support projects and also contributes to an annual scholarship. Since they were in elementary school, Vanessa and her older brother, Hayden have given school supplies or gift cards for supplies to their teachers as well.
Venessa said she is hoping to have more students join her in MADL. After Christmas she plans on putting together kits for boys along planning other volunteer opportunities in the community.
