West Shore Community Ice Arena offering skating lessons

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press. 

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community Ice Arena is currently offering a variety of skating lessons. Programs range from beginners to competition. The arena is located on the campus of West Shore Community College.

Learn to Skate

The Learn to Skate program is for children and adults interested in becoming a hockey player, figure skater or recreation ice skating. The program teaches the fundamentals of skating from the first steps and glides on the ice through more advanced skills.

Levels include:

Snowplow Sam: Beginners ages 3-5

Low Basic Skills: Basic 1-3, ages 3 and older

High Basic Skills: Basic 4 and up, ages 6 and older

The next session will be Sundays Oct. 20 through Dec. 8 (no classes on Nov. 3 or Dec. 1). Additional sessions will be Jan. 5 through Feb. 23 and March 2 through April 20.

Times:

Snowplow Sam: 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Low Basic Skills: 3:30 to 4:25 p.m.

High Basic Skills: 4:25 to 5:20 p.m.

Cost is $80 for a six week session. Cost includes rental skates, rental helmet and membership to Learn to Skate.

Compete USA – Intro to Competition

The Compete USA program promotes a fun, introductory competitive experience for beginner skaters. It is open to all skaters of any level. The class will introduce parents and skaters to the world of competitive skating. Registration, costumes, and on-ice skater preparation will be covered during the class. Skaters will register and attend the Compete USA competition on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Midland.

Times:

Tuesdays, Oct. 15 through Nov. 5, 5 to 5:50 p.m.
