Lloyd Gene Jones, Jr.

Lloyd “Gene” Jones, Jr.

Dec. 19, 1953 to July 4, 2024

For such a quiet man, Lloyd Gene touched, and was loved by, so many.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he was hard working, and very proud of his many years as a welder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Eugene Jones, Sr. and Hazel Mae (Weaver) Jones.

Lloyd Gene was a kind and loyal friend through the years, and through many hours and outings for Softball, hunting, fishing, and all you can eat buffets.

Above all else, Lloyd Gene was a dedicated and loving family man. He spent many hours with wife, Denise (Slocum) Jones, and his sons, Tad and Jacob, enjoying some of his favorite activities: Hunting, fishing, cruising the back roads, antiquing, and enjoying friends and community at the fairs in Oceana and Mason counties, coaching Tad and Jake’s t-ball, baseball, and soccer teams, and following Tad’s football and wrestling matches, supporting Denise’s many creative and artistic endeavors, art fairs, and craft shows, enjoying life at St. Mary’s Lake.

He enjoyed time spent with his siblings, Gary, Jeff and Julie, JoEllen Peterson, and Ted and Brenda. There was talk of memories, things done and things to do, and always much joking and laughter. It was also important to him to visit with the many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, from both sides of the family, whether it was just to pop in, for holiday gatherings, or family reunions. And, he cherished his almost-daily stops at his folk’s house to chat with his Mom. Also important to Lloyd Gene and family was friend and kidney donor, Marianne (Steve) Berry, who gave him several years of bonus time in life.

Lloyd Gene spent many enjoyable hours with his in-laws, who were also his neighbors. That gave new meaning to “Family Bonding Time” during shared meals at the picnic table, yard work, the kid’s activities, and more. Parents-In-Law: Ken and Joan (Bird) Slocum, sister-In-law: Nancy (Raymond/Slocum/Terryn), brother-In-law: Curt (Linda Bifulco) Slocum. He was preceded in death by Ken, Joan, and Nancy.

Lloyd Gene truly liked being a father-in-law to Tad’s long-time love, Aminda (Horton) Jones. And, being Papa to Tad and Aminda’s son, Eli, was one of the most cherished roles in his life. He was always thinking about what he could teach Eli next!

Last but not least, Lloyd Gene was known for his quiet kindness, sense of humor, gorgeous blue eyes, and his signature scowl! He was Tad’s hero, Jacob’s best buddy and fishing partner, and Denise’s friend, hubby, and handholding “Honey” for almost 34 years.

May he rest in peace, reunite with family and friends he’s missed, and may he enjoy playing horseshoes in Heaven.

A Celebration of Lives will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, at our home on St. Mary’s Lake; we will be Celebrating the Life of Lloyd Gene Jones, Jr. AND Celebrating the Life of Joan (Bird) Slocum! (It’s ok! They got along great.)

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
