Evelyn “Evie” Lillian Hartley, 86, of Ludington, passed away Wednesday June 19, 2024. Evie had spent her last few months living in Scottville being cared for at her daughter Karol’s home. She was born March 29, 1938, the daughter of Matthew Leonard and Lillian Almira (Andersen) Gould.

Evie attended Ludington High School, graduating in 1956. On December 15, 1956, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Leo Hartley, Sr. Evie worked as a ward secretary for 22 years at Memorial Medical Center. She was an avid attendee of Washington Avenue Baptist Church, later known as Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Evie was an accomplished seamstress. She spent a lot of her years creating and repairing wedding gowns, bridesmaids and prom dresses. She also loved to knit. She knitted hundreds of sets of hats and mittens and donated them to the kids at Mason County Eastern and Mason County Central schools. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling on a league with her husband Kenny. She was a whiz at rummy. One of her favorite things to do was to travel and cause “trouble” with her youngest sister Bev (together known as Thelma and Louise).

Evie is survived by daughters, Kathy Hartley of Bloomington, Minn. and Karol (Alan) Erickson of Scottville; daughter-in-law, Stacy Ayers Hartley of Ludington; grandchildren, Brad Erickson, Brooke (Tim) Castonia, Kendel (Erika) Trim, Ryan (Amanda) Erickson, Joel (Sara) Trim, Nathan (Samah) Trim, Eric Hartley, Courtney Trim, Tara Hartley, Janelle (Brandon) Beaver, Kayla Hartley, Michael Erickson, Keith Erickson, Krysta (Anthony) Crow, Jacob Erickson, and Kiko Hartley; 26 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Evie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hartley Sr.; both of her sons, Kenneth “Skip” Hartley, Jr. and Gordon Hartley; daughter-in-law, Amy Hartley; as well as her parents and siblings, Robert Gould, Helen Bailey, and Beverly Marble.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at noon at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
