Dan Manning

Dan Manning of Grace Avenue in Hamlin Township, a father, veteran, entrepreneur and sports enthusiast, passed away on Monday, April, 29, 2024 at 77 years old. Born to Edith and Matthew Manning, both of whom preceded him in death, Dan leaves behind a legacy of service, community connections, and family.

After graduating from Mason County Central High School, Dan served our country as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam, rising to the rank of sergeant. His dedication and bravery earned him five medals and awards, a testament to his commitment to duty and honor. He continued to serve our country as a National Guard member, a police officer, and as U.S. Postal Service employee in the years to follow.

Dan’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to own a handful of businesses throughout his lifetime.

Dan was an avid sportsman. He excelled in marksmanship with both rifle and bow; he was a skilled bowler, fisherman and hunter, earning numerous trophies in all areas. Dan’s competitive spirit and love for the game shone through. His passion extended to deer hunting, where he relished the quiet moments in nature.

In his later years, Dan found solace in spending time with fellow veterans allowing him to connect with others who understood the unique bond forged in service. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with guests at his resort on Hamlin Lake, and watching sunsets on Lake Michigan.

A luncheon memorial service to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at the American Legion Club Post 76 in Ludington on Saturday,  June 15 starting at 11:30 a.m. with an Honor Guard salute.
