UPDATE: LPD stated that the bear “safely returned to its natural habitat” and thanked the Michigan State Police and the Department of Natural Resources for their assistance.

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Police Department reported Thursday morning, May 16, that there was a black bear roaming around Ludington.

The bear was first observed in the area of Tinkham Avenue and North Sherman Street. “Officers confirmed the presence of the bear, and it was last seen headed north into the ‘school forest,'” states a post on LPD’s Facebook page. “Please use caution in the area and give the bear some space.”

The post was updated to state that the bear had been recently seen in the area of Staffon and Mitchell streets. The bear later made its way to an area just southeast of downtown and then toward the intersection of Washington and Dowland streets.
