Donald Lee Cameron, Jr., 88 of Free Soil, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on December 21, 1935, in Lansing, the son of the late Donald and Virginia (Sorensen) Cameron. He was a 1955 graduate of Mason County Central High School and a veteran who served in the United States Army. On February 13, 1960, he married Jean Ann Rogers at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manistee.

Don was employed as a truck driver by PCA for 40 years, retiring in 1998, as well as working at Cameron Brothers Well Drilling where he was part owner for several years.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manistee and the United Steelworkers Union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool, and mushroom hunting. He also played softball for many years.

Survivors include his wife; Jean Ann Cameron; three children; David (Lynn) Cameron, Daniel (Karen) Cameron, and Diane (Todd) Schubert; five grandchildren, Danielle (Patrick) O’Rourke-Stedman, Derek (Jodie) Cameron, Broc (Tori) Cameron, Jordan Cameron, and Kelly (Alex) Meyers; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother; Gary (Dorothy) Cameron; his sister; Jill Cameron Schulz; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law; Sherry Cameron; and his in-laws Robert and Mable Rogers.

Memorial Services for Don will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Manistee with Scott Fredericks officiating. Military Honors will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Free Soil Township later in the afternoon following a luncheon that will immediately follow services.
