Obituary: Hilda Parker, 98, of Ludington

Hilda Parker

Hilda May (Brown) Parker, 98 of Ludington, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Born in Ludington on September 29, 1925 to John and Albertha (Roberts) Brown. She was raised in Ludington and lived there most of her life.

Hilda married Allan Parker on July 13, 1946. They were married for over 70 years and raised three daughters together.

Hilda was an active partner in Allan’s optometric business for over 40 years. She was active in the Zonta Club, the Rebekah Lodge, working as a room mother and as a Brownie leader. She enjoyed golfing at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

Hilda was an active member of the Community Church, teaching in the nursery. She loved attending sporting events cheering on the Ludington Orioles and any sport her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were in. She loved to bowl and bowled on a Wednesday afternoon league for many years and traveling to numerous bowling tournaments.

Hilda is survived by: her daughters, Janice Altschwager of Grand Rapids, Susan (Les) Johnson, Ludington, Sara (Bill) VanHorn of Sparta; her grandchildren, Allan (Brecken) Altschwager of Lake Park, Fla., Jenna (Brian) Michalsky of Rockford, Adam (Alexus) Johnson of Ludington, Aaron (Mali) Johnson of Farmington, Minn., Allison (Dave) DeBoer of Rockford, and Lisa (Hank) Montgomery of Sparta; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Allan Parker; parents, John and Albertha Brown; brothers, William  Brown and Robert Brown; sisters, Minnie Williams and Caroline Brown, her in-laws, Earl and Inger Parker, Violet Brown, Marilyn Brown, Barnie Williams, Robert Parker, Dean Parker, Gordon Parker and Ila Tallmadge; and nephew, Russell Parker.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Community Church, 109 N. Harrison St., Ludington, with Reverend John Brown officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sutter Living Center for the loving care they gave Hilda.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Community Church of Ludington.
