Ludington deer removal to take place this month

LUDINGTON — The City of Ludington has announced that its deer removal program will take place within the city limits during the month of March. The program is being conducted by trained professionals from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“This program is aimed at managing the deer population in a safe and effective manner,” said City Manager Mitch Foster. “Trained professionals will be overseeing the process to ensure that it is carried out in an orderly and safe fashion.”

During the month of March, the Cartier Park Pathway and Campground areas will be closed between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. on select evenings. Foster said barricades will indicate the park is closed in order to allow for the removal program to be carried out.

“We understand this will be an inconvenience for those that utilize the trail, however, your safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we assure you that every precaution is being taken,” Foster said.

The deer cull program has been a topic of the City Council for the past two years. As reported in MCP several times, the cull was approved by the council last fall.
