Obituary: James Krieg, 74, of Ludington

James “Jim” Michael Krieg, 74, of Ludington, formerly of Fenton, passed away Sunday January 28, 2024. Jim was born August 8, 1949, the son of James and Jane (Sonntag) Krieg. On July 7, 1973, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Elaine (Jebavy) Krieg, they shared 50 wonderful years together until his passing.

Jim attended Fenton High School and graduated in 1967. Afterward, he proudly served in the United States Army before pursuing higher education at Ferris State University, earning a bachelor’s degree. His dedication to serving his country was evident throughout his life.

Jim embarked on a fulfilling career as a police officer with the Ludington Police Department, where he served for 22 years until his retirement in 2002. He was known for his commitment to keeping the community safe and his unwavering dedication to his duty. Jim’s service extended beyond his career in law enforcement, he wanted to continue contributing to the community and enjoyed seeing the locals by working for Ludington Mass Transit Authority.

Outside of his professional life, Jim enjoyed watching all Michigan sports teams, especially the Lions, finding excitement in the victories and defeats of his beloved teams. He also cherished spending time with his grandchildren, creating precious memories that will be treasured for generations. Jim was known for his love of walking, exploring every nook and cranny of his town, and appreciating the beauty that surrounded him.

Jim is survived by his lovely wife, Mary Elaine Krieg; daughter, Abby Riske; son, Dan Krieg; daughter, Kelly (Caleb) Lowrey; grandchildren, Mia Riske, Sydney Riske, Oliver Lowrey, and Owen Lowrey; brothers, David (Carolyn) Krieg and Steven Krieg.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Krieg; mother, Jane Sonntag; and beloved daughter, Adrienne Krieg.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington at 11 a.m. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.
