Iowa man ordered to pay over $30,000 in back child support

LUDINGTON — A 43-year-old Iowa man was ordered to pay $30,255 in child support during a sentencing hearing in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Odell Eugene Martin pleaded guilty to a felony of failure to pay child support, Nov. 14. Martin was extradited to Michigan to face the charge, said Michigan Assistant Attorney General Sarah Brenner. 

He was also sentenced to 127 days in jail with credit for 127 days served and three years probation, according to his court file. He was ordered to pay extradition costs of $4,536. 

“As a condition of probation, Martin was ordered to pay back child support of $30,255.01,” said Danny Wimmer, press secretary for the AG’s office.

Failure to pay child support is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
