Convicted sex offender sentenced in CSC case

LUDINGTON — A 32-year-old man serving a 25-40 year prison term for first-degree criminal sexual conduct was sentenced to 16 months to two years in prison in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Tuesday,  Dec. 12.

Christopher Joseph Schneider pleaded guilty to a high-court misdemeanor of fourth-degree CSC, Oct. 31.

Schneider is currently lodged in the Macomb Correctional Facility in Lenox Township, according to Michigan Department of Corrections records. His earliest release date is June 4, 2047. 

The male victim in the Mason County case addressed the court, stating, “I would like to see this man put behind bars for a long time.”

“Even though this would not result in additional time, he still wanted to follow through and not be silenced by fear or shame caused by the horrific actions by the defendant that were perpetrated on him,” said Assistant Prosecutor Beth Hand of the victim. 

“My client has accepted responsibility rather quickly in this case,” said Schneider’s attorney Michael Brown.

“I  would like to apologize to the victim in this case,” said Schneider. “I am 110 percent sorry. Thank you for stepping up and telling them,” Schneider said to the victim.

Judge Susan K. Sniegowski said Schneider’s term will be served concurrently because there is no statutory basis to make it consecutive. 

Schneider is ordered to have no contact with the victim and was given zero jail credit. 

He is also serving concurrent terms of two to 15 years in prison for two counts of second-degree CSC. He was convicted by a Kent County jury and sentenced June 8, 2023, according to MDOC records.

Fourth-degree CSC is punishable by up to two years in prison.
