County board to vote on airport improvement plan

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Board of Commissioners will consider the Mason County Airport’s 2024-2028 capital improvement plan when it meets for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.

The county is required to submit a proposal to the State of Michigan in order to be eligible for state and federal funding. The plan has been developed by Mason County Airport Manager John O’Connor, Prein & Newhof civil engineering and the county Buildings, Planning, Drains and Airport Committee.

The plan calls for $116,000 in repairs and upgrades in 2024 which include $33,000 in runway, taxiway and apron re-marking and runway lighting design work for $39,000 and runway and taxiway crack sealing for $18,000.

In 2025, the plan calls for lighting construction of $697,000.

The 2026 plan calls for design work for re-construction design work of runway 1/19, the north-south runway at $188,750 with the re-construction project to take place in 2027 at $2.9 million.

The 2028 plan calls for airport beacon design and construction at $132,500 and runway flight check at $25,000.

The Buildings, Planning, Drains and Airport Committee is recommending the board approve the plan.

The Board of Commissioners meets at the Mason County Airport Terminal, 5300 W. US 10.
