SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central High School art students were busy making Christmas tree ornaments Tuesday afternoon. The ornaments will be displayed on MCC’s entry to the United Way of Mason County’s Festival of Trees fundraiser being held at Stix Bar in Hamlin Township.

Students participating in the project earn Spartan Way points, which are required for graduation. National Honor Society members also earn community service hours.

“United Way’s contributions to Mason County have a very positive impact on our students here at Mason County Central,” said Angela Taylor, MCC director of compensatory education and migrant education.

“This is a project that the students were excited to participate in,” Taylor said. “Under the guidance of art teacher Rachel Brock they’ve created some unique biodegradable ornaments that will decorate our MCC-themed tree.”

The tree decorating period is from Thursday, November 30 to Friday, December 1. Each participating group is responsible for decorating its own tree during that time.

The public will vote on the trees at Stix Biergarten. The top three trees will be auctioned off. The remaining trees will be given to local Shop with a Cop/Shop with a Hero families with the the lights and decorations.
