Obituary: Mary Bueker, 89, of Ludington

Our beloved and treasured Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt, Mary Lou (Hubbard) Bueker, 89, of Ludington, went to heaven on Friday, November 17, 2023.  She was born the third child (after one sister and one brother) of the late Miles and Adah (Baughn) Hubbard on February 13, 1934, in Marion, at home during a snowstorm.  She was delivered by her grandmother and aunt, as the doctor didn’t make it in time.  Six sisters soon followed.

Mary graduated from Marion High School in 1952 where she played clarinet in the marching band.  Mary married Wesley Junior Bueker on August 28, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Marion.  They settled in a home built by her husband and father-in-law, in Kochville Township, Saginaw, where they raised their four children.

Mary worked for 18 years as an elementary school secretary, first at Liberty School, then Zilwaukee School.  Mary attended Community of Christ church, where she served terms as book steward and recording secretary.  She sang in the choir, was active in the ladies’ groups, and helped with bazaars, funeral dinners, soup suppers, and deer hunters dinners.  She was active in the American Business Women’s Association.

Mary enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking (she made the BEST pies), vegetable and flower gardening, canning, cooking, working out with her sisters, playing Spinner, meeting with teachers she worked with at Zilwaukee School, and family gatherings.  Mary worked elections, was a swim team official, and a Campfire Girl leader.  She enjoyed traveling and had visited Switzerland and Germany.  She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren as a high school graduation gift.  She also enjoyed watching westerns on TV, reading, playing bingo at Ludington Woods, and coloring in her many coloring books.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 2013; her brother Carl Hubbard; and sisters Barbara Bielby, Shirley Dodds, Sharon Hubbard, and Carol (Don) Gillmore; a niece, and several nephews; also by in-laws Kathleen Bueker, Margaret (Dan) Clark, Jack Bueker, and John Stevens.

Mary is survived by her children: daughter Lori (Frank) Longmore of Ludington; daughter Beth (Gary) Duncan of Seneca, South Carolina, and Beth’s children Aaron (Ashley) Thomas, and Heather (Kyle) Lewis.  Son David (Tracy) Bueker of Osawatomie, Kansas and their son John (Heather) and their children Gabriel, McKenna, and Jae; daughter Katie (J.P.) Sibbitt and their children Alfred and Calvin and their daughter Anna (George) Dille and their children Ellis and Hayes.  Son Brian (Cheryl) Bueker of Spring Hill, Kansas and their daughter Megan (Tommy) Rand and their children Rilee, Remi, and Thomas, whose birth is expected soon; son Jacob (Taylor) and their son Bennett; daughter Aleah (Niles) Kahn and their daughter Hadley.

Mary is also survived by her sisters:  Joyce (Jim) Kelly; Beverly (Bill) Kibby; and Sandra (Dorian) Dobias, and in-laws: Michele Bueker and Ruth Stevens.

A memorial service is to be held at Community of Christ church, 16945 30th Avenue, Marion on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 1 p.m.

Mary is to be buried in Greenwood Cemetery, in Marion, next to her husband Wesley.
