Scottville Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors is Sunday

SCOTTVILLE — The annual Scottville Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, at Mason County Central High School cafeteria. After two years of drive-up, take-out dinners, the Thanksgiving tradition will resume as an indoor, sit-down event.

Meals will be served from noon to 2 p.m., or until the food runs out. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will include turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, and vegetables.

The event is sponsored by the Scottville Area Senior Center, Mason County Central Schools, Scottville Downtown Development Authority and Scottville Optimist Club. Food will again be prepared by the Mason County Central Schools Food Service.

“There is no set charge for the dinner,” said SASC director Bill Kerans. “As always, we will gratefully accept donations to help defray the cost of the many turkeys and the other dishes prepared by MCC Food Service. The senior center is also part of MCC, so the event is truly an extension of the school system’s community involvement.”

Kerans emphasized that the event is for senior citizens.

“We’re very glad to have an event exclusively for seniors to get together and enjoy a nice meal in a warm, friendly atmosphere. We’d love to be able to feed the whole community, but our resources don’t stretch that far,” said Kerans. “We welcome seniors from throughout Mason County. We’re grateful to the school district for opening the cafeteria for the event.”

Kerans said many volunteers are needed to put on the dinner. Members of event sponsor organizations will be prominent among the volunteers setting up, serving meals, and cleaning up. Also joining in this year are many individual volunteers, as well as employees from West Shore Bank, Smith and Eddy Insurance, Scottville Police Department, students from MCC National Honor Society and area Girl Scouts.

Parking for the event will be in the high school lot adjacent to State Street (US 10), with entrance via the main door to the high school.
