Firefighters battle Grant Township woods fire

GRANT TOWNSHIP — Firefighters battled a small woods fire today near the 900 block of West White Road. Grant Township Fire Department was initially dispatched to the scene at 12:58 p.m. The fire appeared to have started along power lines in that area and spread westerly about two or three acres. Assistance was called in from Free Soil/Meade Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service. Mason County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene. The fire was contained within an hour but firefighters remained on scene for almost three hours.
