Police investigate self-inflicted shooting death of 18-year-old man

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Police Department is investigating the self-inflicted shooting death of an 18-year-old man that occurred in the 500 block of East Dowland Street Wednesday, Nov. 8, at approximately 6:40 p.m., according to Ludington Police Chief Chris Jones.

“Ludington police responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Dowland for the report of a subject that had suffered a gunshot wound to the head,” states Chief Jones in a press release. “Upon arrival, LPD officers found an 18-year-old male bleeding and unresponsive. Medical treatment was immediately provided by first responders on scene. The male subject was transported to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital where he later died.

“Due to the serious nature of the incident, a thorough investigation followed. Investigators interviewed numerous witnesses and attempted to locate people who had left the scene prior to the arrival of first responders, as well as additional pieces of physical evidence. Evidence was identified and collected from multiple locations, in an attempt to more fully understand how the incident unfolded.
