Obituary: Marvin Coker, 87, of Scottville

Marvin Dale Coker, 87, of Scottville, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Marv was born on January 30, 1936, the son of the late William and Clara (Garrett) Coker. In 1954, he graduated from Brethren High School. On November 15, 1956, he married his forever love, Constance (Shumsky) Coker. Together they shared over 65 memorable years together.

Marv was employed by Dow Chemical in Ludington working as an engineer. In 1994, after 29 years of working, he was able to retire. Marv also worked as a car mechanic.

Marv was a hard worker and took pride in knowing that about himself. He loved woodworking, and even built his own home for his family. He kept himself busy with yard work on most days, knowing there was always something to be done. What he loved the most was his family and friends. Often, he could be found surrounded by them, constantly having a story to tell.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Constance Coker; son, Rick Coker; daughter, Janice (Dan) Proctor; and grandchildren, Chad (Amanda) Coker and family, Shelby Coker, Jeremy (Mary Jean) Coker and family, Crystal Cook and family, and Ericka (Chad) Newton and family.

Marvin was preceded in death by his son, Randy Coker; parents, William and Clara Coker; and brothers, Bob Coker, Don Coker, and Bill Coker.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home after visiting hours.
