Woman nearly drowns after jumping off pontoon boat

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — A 30-year-old Ypsilanti woman who jumped off a pontoon into Hamlin Lake nearly drowned Saturday, Aug. 19, around 3:45 p.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The woman jumped into water 20 feet deep and was in distress. Emergency crews from Hamlin Township Fire Department, Life EMS and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol responded to the scene. The victim was treated at the scene by Life EMS and transported to Corewell Health Ludington Hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries,” said Sheriff Cole.
