Carletta Scarbrough

Obituary: Carletta (Stanton) Scarbrough, 81, of Muskegon, formerly of Ludington

Carletta (Stanton) “Cookie” Scarbrough, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Muskegon, on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Cookie moved to Muskegon a few years ago to be closer to her son, Royce, who was her caretaker and shared many fond memories with her in their recent years together.

She was born on March 17, 1941, in Flint to her parents Carl and Shirley (McKenzie) Stanton. Cookie worked for many years as a breeder of show horses and show dogs. She had an adventurous spirit, and she easily made friends wherever she went. One of her favorite memories was driving her son’s race car in the powderpuff races at the Mason County Fairgrounds in Ludington, but more recently she enjoyed playing euchre and other card games. She was very generous with her time, volunteering for many years at senior citizens’ centers and Commission on Aging in White Cloud.

Cookie will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Robbin (Jan) Rees, Kathleen (Danny) Sorenson, Royce Rees, and Regan Rees; seven grandchildren: Robert Rees, Daryl Jabrocki, Sky Rees-Spinner, Nickole Shriver, Robert Shriver Jr, Bobby Jo Rees, and Thomas Rees; several great-grandchildren; two close friends that she had taken under her wing, Larry Mahler and Homer Thorstenson; many other friends that she had made over the years; and her beloved French bulldog, Kloe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as an infant son, Ernest Rees. Per Carletta’s request, no services will be taking place.
